All are welcome to join us for our Sunday services at 9:00 or 11:00 AM. Each week we hear a variety of scripture readings from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. We consider these readings contextually and carefully. You will find that we take the Bible seriously, not literally. We sincerely search out how to apply the living principles of ancient scripture to the here and now.
Our worship draws on the best of church tradition without staying stuck in the past. At Community United Church traditional liturgy blends with new resources for community worship. We find many hymns to be theologically rich, and many contemporary worship songs to generate powerful feelings of praise. A full worship life includes both.
As followers of God in Christ, we are unapologetically Open and Affirming. We welcome LGBTQ and straight people alike. We desire to bring healing to racial and ethnic divides. You are welcome whether you have a religious upbringing or none at all. We believe crying babies are signs (and sounds) of growth! We think of family as connections of love, not just where we’re from (although we love those families, too!) Wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. We mean that (and hope to practice it well).
We believe that faith is best shared like an open handed offering. And so when you join us for our Sunday worship services, it is our hope that you have the opportunity to connect with God–the One who is within us, around us, and leading us.
Some weeks we come to worship to boldly give thanks to God for the joy in our lives. Other weeks it may mean simply being still and reflecting on God in the midst of pain or sorrow. Some weeks “church” will click and all will seem right. Other weeks, one might wonder if faith is effective at all. However it is you come on Sunday mornings, we at Community United Church will meet you there. Together we’ll continue our journey of faith with the God of All–the One who meets us in our humanity… through one another…. through Christ… and through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
